WOULD ALL STALLION AND MARE OWNERS MAKE CERTAIN THAT THEY READ THE DETAILS OF THE GRANTS AND THE CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH THEY WILL BE GIVEN AS PUBLISHED BELOW

The Society is very grateful to the Horserace Betting Levy Board and to all those who help to raise money for the Society, enabling it to offer breeding grants.

Grants for 2005 will be in the following categories: -

- Grant for placing a stallion on the list of stallions standing at stud.

- Grant for each registered Suffolk mare covered by stallions on the list, payable to the stallion owner.

- Grant paid to stallion owner for reported birth by his or her stallion. Given under the conditions below:

- Grant for all stallions forward at Woodbridge Show.

Travelling grants for stallions attending Woodbridge Show - a grant of 50p per mile will be paid for each mile travelled over fifty miles from the Suffolk Showground

Grant to those owners who maintain a colt entire until the age of two years. Grant to be given when the colt reaches two years old and presented to the Licencing Committee.

Grant to mare owners for registering foals BEFORE 1st October.

Note. There will be a registration fee of £20 for foals registered after 1st October. If an animal is registered after the end of the year in which it was born it will have to be inspected by two appointed members of the Society's Panel of Judges and this inspection will be at the owner's expense.

The registration fee will be paid by the Society for each foal registered by 1st October.

Grant to owners of every registered Suffolk mare covered by a licensed Suffolk stallion.

Mare owners may apply to the office for financial assistance when long distances have to be travelled to a suitable stallion. They may also apply for assistance with the cost of treating mares with fertility problems.

The grant paid to stallion owners for foals born and sired by their stallions will be paid under the following conditions:-

The owner of the dam of each foal must report the birth of the foal to the Secretary WITHIN SEVEN DAYS of it occurring. Grants will be paid to the stallion owner for each live foal, foal born dead or aborted visible foetus and will also be paid if a mare dies and is shown to be in foal by a veterinary surgeon's post mortem report. Each of these events, however, must be reported to the Society's office WITHIN SEVEN DAYS. On receipt of each reported live birth the office will send a registration form to the mare owner. This will enable him or her to ask his or her veterinary surgeon to complete the registration document when the veterinary surgeon is on the premises. The office will make every effort to provide this service to mare owners but it must be made clear that it is the mare owner's responsibility to obtain such a registration form so that if one does not arrive the mare owner must apply for one.

You are reminded that foals by unlicensed stallions or unregistered stallions will not be registered.

With the object of encouraging the breeding of Suffolk horses and in an endeavour to ensure that a stallion may be available the Suffolk Horse Society has offered grants to stallion owners whose horses appear on the list.

Please Note. Grants and premiums are payable only to fully paid up members of the Suffolk Horse Society. Grants and premiums are payable only in respect of registered Suffolk horses.
